International Social Media Superstar '2009'

'What were you doing the night Susan Boyle performed for the entire world? It was a night to remember in 2009. Love the look on the judges faces.. She was whittie , cute, and full of spunk.. Would you have ever guessed.. This experience has taught me a lot about my dreams, and how easily we do judge so many people.. SO do I think that you can make it big in the Social Media.. Well H*** yeah.. What a breath of fresh air.. Absolutely loved her... Julie'

A new friend on FB had this page posted , I loved it, I thought it clearly showed how strong the social media really can be... If you play your cards right... 'Courtesy of evenalicium.com'

Another new friend I have met this last past year, that has a great sense of humor, and a funny, yet powerful way to educate others on IMO, MArketing, Well pretty much everything.. I think you will like what he does.. You can check out the IMO man by visiting.. 'Rick" IMO-Networker.com IMO-Networker.com

Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the best part of the 2009, you will know the story of Susan Boyle who shot to fame in April after auditioning on Britains Got Tallent. Susan shocked the audience, judges, nation and world with her amazing voice which was obviously not what anyone was expecting from this plain middle aged woman from Scotland.

While watching the program Louwrens was convinced that this audition was going to become the most watched video in the short 4 year history of You Tube and the forseeable future! We shared the video on Facebook, Twitter & You Tube as well as with Richard Kall, CEO of VMDirect (the Network Marketing Company we are affiliated with). He was blown away and shared it with the entire network along with his thoughts on this remarkable lady who was an inspiration and a lesson to us all not to judge a book by it’s cover, not to give up on our dreams and to show what is possible!

Obviously we were among many sharing the story of Susan Boyle who was quickly becoming an international social media superstar. Wikipedia confirms this with the following amazing stats:

----------------------------------------

Web sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter have been crucial in facilitating Boyle’s rapid rise to fame: The most popular YouTube video submission of her audition garnered nearly 2.5 million views in the first 72 hours. On the day following the performance, the YouTube video was the most popular article on Digg. The same video was judged so popular on Reddit that it was put on the site’s main page. Within a week, the audition performance had been viewed more than 66 million times, setting an online record, while on Wikipedia her biographical article attracted nearly half a million page views. A total of 103 million video views on 20 different Web sites was reached within nine days. The Los Angeles Times wrote that her popularity on YouTube may in part be due to the broad range of emotion packed into a short clip which was “perfect for the Internet”.

Within the week following her performance on Britain’s Got Talent, Boyle was a guest on STV’s The Five Thirty Show. She was interviewed via satellite on CBS’s Early Show, Good Morning America, NBC’s Today and on FOX’s America’s Newsroom. and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Via satellite on Larry King Live, Boyle performed an a cappella verse of “My Heart Will Go On”. She was also portrayed in drag by Jay Leno, who joked that they were related through his mother’s Scottish heritage.

----------------------------------------

Susan’s journey is going from strength to strength; totaling well over 300 million hits on You Tube & nearly 2 Million Facebook fans. She has been trending on Google trends/blogs/search and throughout Twitter. Her debut album I Dreamed A Dream, became the fastest selling debut album over the last two weeks since it’s release. Susan will also star in an original one-hour television special on TV this week. The worldwide premiere of “I Dreamed a Dream: The Susan Boyle Story” airs on Sunday, December 13 at 9:00 p.m. on ITV1 in the UK, followed by the exclusive North American premiere on TV Guide Network at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. The show will celebrate this extraordinary woman’s journey from a small village in rural Scotland to international fame and fan-fare.

Watch Susan’s journey so far below. A great mini-documentary on the singing sensation!

If you are still doubting the power of Social Media and the benefit it can bring to your business, the Susan Boyle story is absolute proof. For someone who was unknown outside her immediate friends and family to become a global phenomenon in such a short time would simply be impossible without social media.

We want to make a clear distinction for you – We constantly hear about the lack of monetization of Social Media. These are the companies that provide us with the well known platforms like Facebook, MySpace and YouTube, but they are struggling to come up with a viable business model and only kept afloat by the likes of Microsoft, News Corp and Google.

Don’t mistake this with companies USING a solid social media marketing strategy. Susan’s management team are certainly converting social media traffic into paying fans.

Some more interesting stats that prove the point in hand:I Dreamed a Dream became:

* Amazon.com’s best-selling album in pre-sales on 4 September 2009, three months before the scheduled release.

* Recognised as the fastest selling UK debut album of all time.

* In the UK sold 411,820 copies in the first week.

* In the US sold 701,000 copies in its first week.

* In the US outsold the rest of the top 5 albums combined.

* Sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, becoming the Fastest Selling Global Female Debut Album in the first week.

* Climbing to more than 5 Million copies worldwide in the first 2 weeks.

We will be watching with close interest how the next chapter unfolds. Will the premier of the TV documentary this weekend be the catalyst for even more social media buzz around Susan? We wouldn’t doubt it for a second. In return this buzz in it’s own right could dwarf what has already been achieved.
